Former Oldham and Morecambe striker joins Brig.

We have been after our own number 9 for a while now and I know he will strengthen the squad and help us stay towards the top end of the league.

Following unofficial reports in other media outlets earlier in the week, the club have confirmed the signing of striker Rhys Turner.

The move, which was completed early on Thursday evening sees the 26 year old make the switch to Irongate from Pitching-In Northern Premier League neighbours Lancaster City.

Preston-born Rhys began is football career in Preston North End's youth set up, before joining Stockport County at the age of 18, making 17 appearances in the 2013-14 season. He then spent two seasons at Oldham Athletic and a loan spell at York City.

Rhys moved back to his native Lancashire is 2016, signing for Morecambe, making 36 appearances for the Shrimps in League 2 between 2016 and 2018.

In 2018 he made the switch to National League outfit Barrow. Unfortunately the physical demands of the full-time game forced Rhys to take the difficult decision to end his professional career after a series of injuries.

Rhys returned the the game in the summer of 2020, signing for fellow Northern Premier League side Lancaster City. He quickly established himself as a favourite with the Dolly Blues fans, and was recently voted fan's player of the month for December.

Speaking after confirming the signing, Brig manager Jamie Milligan said:

" It’s great to have Rhys on board, I’ve followed his career and know what a good player he is. We have been after our own number 9 for a while now and I know he will strengthen the squad and help us stay towards the top end of the league.

And also I hope I can help him become a better player"

Rhys will be eligible for selection for tomorrow's crucial home game versus FC United of Manchester.
