Matty Thomson's 49th-minute stunner helped Brig to their third consecutive home win with a 1-0 victory over Warrington Rylands.

Jamie Milligan's side were looking to make it five wins out of six in the NPL Premier Division, in what was only the second home game since November.

And Brig got off to a promising start, with Harry Scarborough seeing an effort blocked inside the area before Isaac Sinclair forced a good low save out of Luke Pilling with a 20-yard effort.

The visitors then had a couple of half chances, Sam Egerton first hooking the ball over the bar following a corner. James Nield then fired over the bar from inside the area following a cutback from Jak McCourt.

It was Brig who finished the first half stronger with a host of opportunities. Fin Sinclair-Smith had two chances, one from just past the halfway line which almost went over the head of the goalkeeper, and another from 20 yards which had to be parried away.

Pilling was also in action to block Joe Robbins' effort from inside the area on 43 minutes.

Brig started the second half on the front foot again, and it didn't take long for the opening goal. From around 30 yards out, Thomson picked up a loose ball before firing a low effort in off the post, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

But Pilling did keep out subsequent efforts from Sinclair and Sinclair-Smith, with Brig continuing to press forward.
Then the visitors had a stronger spell, with Macauley Wilson producing some superb defensive work to prevent Kelly N'dai from levelling for Rylands from 12 yards.

Back at the other end, Sinclair-Smith was once again involved after being played through on goal, but Pilling narrowed the angle and kept out his effort with a good save.

Brig then saw out five minutes of added time to record a win which takes them to third place in the NPL Premier Division table.
