Despite a brace from James Dean, a second half comeback from Stalybridge Celtic meant Brig fell to a 3-2 defeat at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium.

Dean opened the scoring on 13 minutes after he ran through to chase a long ball before cutting inside past the defender and placing it into the bottom corner.

His second came just nine minutes later, when he powerfully headed home Alistair Waddecar's floated cross into the bottom corner, leaving Stalybridge 'keeper Alex Fojticek with no chance.

The remainder of the half saw few chances, although Lloyd Rigby was called into action to punch away several threatening crosses from the visitors.

And Waddecar was unlucky when his attempted through ball to Dean was cut out with Brig looking to counter on the stroke of half time.

Brig went into the second half two goals to the good, and were unlucky not to make it three on 64 minutes when Ryan White's curling effort struck the post and went behind.

Unfortunately for Joey Collins's side, though, Celtic halved their deficit down the other end just a minute later.

A corner was floated into the six yard box and striker Darius Osei headed home into the bottom corner.

Shortly after Brig won a corner kick of their own, the ball glancing off Waddecar's head from the delivery and going narrowly wide of the post.

At this point, though, the visitors were beginning to get more men in the attacking third - the equaliser subsequently came when Osei's deflected left foot effort from the edge of the box nestled into the back of the net.

And Brig hearts were broken two minutes later when Craig Hobson nipped in at the back post to tuck the ball past Rigby and complete the turnaround for the visitors.

The hosts continued to press for an equaliser, and Chris Marlow and Gary Pett were both introduced with just under 10 minutes to play.

Marlow would see red for two bookable offences late on, and despite their best efforts, Brig were unable to get the leveller and it was Stalybridge who took away all three points.
