Brig recorded their second home victory in five days in defeating Gainsborough Trinity 5-1 - with five players getting on the scoresheet.

Isaac Sinclair, Ewan Bange, Callum Spooner, Rob Apter and Matt Dudley all netted as Jamie Milligan's side marked the final appearance of Chris Marlow in a Brig shirt with a superb display.

Marlow announced his departure from the club on Thursday after 12 years, 479 appearances and 50 goals.

For his 480th appearance, the 31-year-old was restored to the starting XI and named as Brig captain.

Brig got off to the perfect start on four minutes, when Sinclair applied a clinical right-footed finish to Spooner's low cross from the right flank.

They made it two on 17 minutes when Bange found space on the edge of the box before curling an effort into the bottom left corner.

Apter almost added a third when he broke through on goal, but his effort forced a fine save by Gainsborough goalkeeper Matt Yates.

Brig did manage to go into the break with a three-goal advantage, when Spooner diverted the ball over the line from close range on 41 minutes.

Mark Yeates then came close when he dribbled between two defenders before Yates parried away his subsequent effort.

Much like the first half, Brig raced out of the blocks when it came to the beginning of the second period. Within moments of the half kicking off, Apter drove into the penalty area before shifting the ball onto his left foot and curling it into the bottom corner.

The visitors pulled a goal back on 84 minutes when Gibson's header from a corner hit the turf and looped into the top corner, but Brig restored their four-goal advantage on 88 minutes when Dudley fired home from inside the area.

Shortly after the final whistle, Marlow applauded the Brig faithful for the last time as a Brig player, at the end of what was a memorable team performance.

Everyone at the club would like to wish Marls all the best for whatever comes next after his departure from the club, and thank him for all the memories - including THAT play-off final winning goal.
