Gary Pett's 10 minute hat trick helped Brig seal a safe passage through to round three of the Lancashire FA Trophy amidst a goal-filled second half.

Matt Dudley, having scored a free kick on Saturday from 25 yards out, went one better in the 13th minute of this one as he sent the ball over the wall and into the bottom corner from 30 yards.

Chris Marlow then saw a goalbound effort well saved by the keeper, before Dudley's subsequent follow up was blocked.

That was the closest Brig got to doubling their lead in the first 45 minutes, the hosts going into the interval with a 1-0 lead.

Against the run of play, however, the visitors levelled on 52 minutes when Morgan Crowther fired into the bottom corner via a deflection.

But the setback did not affect Brig's play and Pett notched his first of the night just three minutes later, slotting calmly past the keeper when one on one.

He then added a second another two minutes later, running through the defence before brilliantly chipping the ball over the onrushing keeper.

And Brig's number nine for the night had his hat trick on 65 minutes, again receiving a through ball before placing the ball hard and low between the keeper's legs and into the back of the net.

The scoring didn't stop there for Brig, Marlow firing into the bottom left corner after the ball fell to him in the box.

That started a chaotic six minute period for both sides, as Mike Hale went to clear the ball before a coming together between him and substitute Yves Zama resulted in a spot kick being awarded to Nelson.

Captain Sam Dickinson stepped up and slotted the ball home, before remarkably Brig went straight up the other end and won a penalty of their own.

Marlow converted low into the bottom left corner for his second of the night, sending the keeper the wrong way.

Nelson then made it 6-3 a minute later, Zama putting the ball in the back of the net from just inside the area.

There was concern for Brig late on as Pett was sent into the advertising boards by a hard tackle, but he was thankfully able to carry on and complete the game.

The game ended 6-3 - a deserved triumph for Brig, and one that sees them through to the third round where they take on Wythenshawe Amateurs at home next Tuesday.
